The Israeli diplomat asserted that while Prime Minister Netanyahu agreed to “de-escalate the temperature” of the military campaign following a direct personal request from Trump, Washington completely comprehends that Israel cannot unconditionally tolerate ballistic missile strikes on its sovereign territory. Leiter accused international correspondents of manufacturing deceptive narratives, emphasizing that the underlying defense, intelligence, and logistical cooperation between the two superpower allies remains profoundly integrated.
The ambassador’s defensive public relations drive occurs amidst indications of growing impatience within the White House over Netanyahu’s unilateral maneuvers, which threatened to disrupt backchannel peace framework negotiations between US officials and Tehran. Trump underscored this friction on his Truth Social platform, warning that “ignorance or stupidity” must not derail the advancing diplomatic tracks. In response, Netanyahu delivered a televised national address, signaling strategic autonomy by stating that he had made it explicitly clear to Trump that Israel retains an absolute, sovereign right to self-defense and would execute it according to its own operational timelines.
Concurrently, defensive high commands in Tehran have signaled readiness for a protracted confrontation if the truce is violated. Military sources quoted by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency warned that the Islamic Republic remains mobilized for a sustained theater engagement and could target US regional military assets if Israel resumes its campaign.
