Desk Report: Bangladesh has improved its position by climbing four spots to 93rd place in the Henley Passport Index 2025, up from 97th last year. However, the number of visa-free destinations available to Bangladeshi passport holders has decreased from 42 in 2024 to 39 this year, signaling a decline in global travel privileges. Despite the improvement in rank, Bangladesh’s passport remains among the weakest in the world. In comparison, Singapore holds the top spot, with its passport allowing visa-free access to 193 destinations, followed by Japan and South Korea with 190 destinations each. Several European nations, including Germany, France, and Spain, rank third, offering access to 189 destinations. At the bottom of the index, Afghanistan ranks the lowest, with visa-free access to just 25 countries. Among South Asian countries, the Maldives boasts the strongest passport, ranked 52nd with 93 visa-free destinations, while India is in 80th place with 56 destinations, Bhutan in 83rd with 51, Myanmar in 88th with 45, and Sri Lanka in 91st with 42. Nepal and Pakistan rank lower, with visa-free access to 38 and 32 destinations, respectively. The Henley Passport Index is compiled by Henley & Partners, using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), ranking 199 passports based on access to 227 travel destinations globally.
