Desk Report: : A number of Bangladeshi companies have entered into partnerships with Starlink to assist in establishing ground earth stations across the country.
The firms have signed agreements with the US-based telecommunications provider, as a Starlink team is currently in Bangladesh for discussions. This collaboration includes support with space allocation, construction, and the ongoing maintenance of infrastructure.
The visit of the Starlink team has helped the Bangladeshi firms identify potential locations of interest for the installation. At certain sites, the firms are offering their own properties, while other locations, such as those within Hitech Park, are being considered by Starlink.
Discussions on specific locations and implementation plans are still in progress, according to Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser.
Taiyeb expressed optimism that Starlink’s efforts would deliver reliable and high-speed internet to cities, remote areas, and even more challenging regions like the north and coastal areas—areas often affected by power outages or natural disasters.
“It will ensure uninterrupted and high-quality service. As telecom-grade fiber networks remain limited in Bangladesh and remote regions face persistent load shedding, Starlink will support daily activities and boost digital initiatives for entrepreneurs, freelancers, NGOs, and small and medium-sized businesses,” he said.
“We are committed to developing a practical model with Starlink over the next 90 days,” he added.
In a letter dated February 19, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus invited Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, to visit Bangladesh and launch the Starlink satellite service. The Chief Adviser noted that Musk’s visit would allow him to meet young Bangladeshis who stand to benefit significantly from this groundbreaking technology.
The Chief Adviser also instructed his High Representative, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, to work closely with SpaceX’s team to ensure that all preparations are made for the Starlink launch in Bangladesh within the next 90 working days.
On February 13, the Chief Adviser held a detailed phone conversation with Elon Musk to discuss future collaboration and to further advance the introduction of Starlink’s satellite internet service in Bangladesh.
