Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, the Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary, announced today (27 February) that the distribution of the monthly allowance for the victims of the July uprising will likely begin in March this year. He shared this information during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
The distribution will benefit the families of the 834 martyrs, whose names were published in the gazette. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam outlined the support plans, stating that each martyr’s family will receive a one-time assistance of Tk30 lakh—Tk10 lakh through national savings certificates in fiscal 2024-25 and Tk20 lakh in fiscal 2025-26. Additionally, each family will receive a monthly allowance of Tk20,000, and capable family members will be given priority for government and semi-government jobs.
Regarding the injured victims of the July uprising, they have been categorized by a medical board into three groups, each entitled to different allowances and facilities:
- Category A: 493 critically injured individuals who are unable to lead independent lives will receive Tk5 lakh in one-time assistance. This will be paid in two parts: Tk2 lakh in fiscal 2024-25 and Tk3 lakh in fiscal 2025-26. They will also receive Tk20,000 per month and lifetime medical facilities at public hospitals, both locally and abroad, as recommended by the medical board. Additional training and rehabilitation, as well as identity cards for accessing government benefits, will also be provided.
- Category B: 908 severely injured individuals will receive Tk3 lakh in one-time assistance—Tk1 lakh in fiscal 2024-25 and Tk2 lakh in fiscal 2025-26. They will also receive a monthly allowance of Tk15,000, along with necessary training and rehabilitation, as well as identity cards for accessing various government facilities.
- Category C: 10,648 individuals who recovered after treatment will receive Tk1 lakh as one-time assistance and a monthly allowance of Tk10,000. They will also benefit from rehabilitation programs and identity cards.
