Desk Report: A tense standoff at the Jinjira branch of Rupali Bank in Keraniganj, Dhaka, concluded without bloodshed as three armed robbers surrendered after holding bank employees and customers hostage for nearly three hours.
The suspects, aged between 20 and 30, entered the bank around 2:00 PM with the intention of robbing it but were thwarted by a swift response from law enforcement. Teams from the army, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), and police surrounded the premises, urging the robbers to lay down their weapons and surrender peacefully.
“They heeded our call to surrender and handed over their firearms before being taken into custody,” said a Rab official at the scene. The robbers were escorted away in a microbus under tight security.
All hostages, including bank officials and customers, were rescued unharmed. While no casualties occurred, bank authorities are assessing potential damages caused during the incident.
This coordinated effort by security forces ensured a safe resolution to a high-stakes situation, averting what could have been a devastating robbery.
