The commuters and transport operators across Bangladesh will feel a slight ease in their pockets as the government officially lowers fuel prices by Tk2 per litre. The Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Ministry finalized the decision Saturday (31 January) evening, aiming to pass on the benefits of a stabilizing global energy market directly to the people.
For the millions of bike riders and car owners, Octane will now cost Tk120 per litre (down from Tk122), while Petrol has been adjusted to Tk116. Perhaps more importantly for the agricultural and transport sectors—which rely heavily on Diesel—the price has dropped to a round Tk100 per litre. Additionally, Kerosene, a staple for many rural households, will now be sold at Tk112.
This price adjustment is part of the country’s “Automatic Fuel Pricing” system. Like a mirror reflecting the world stage, this mechanism ensures that when global oil prices dip, the Bangladeshi consumer eventually sees that change at the local filling station every month.
