In a horrific act of violence, a 27-year-old youth was brutally hacked to death by unidentified miscreants and his body dumped into a pond in Nalchhiti Upazila of Jhalakathi district. Police recovered the floating, lacerated corpse of the victim, identified as Aminul Islam Babu, on Sunday afternoon at approximately 2:30 PM from a pond belonging to the residence of Krishna Kanta Roy in Kuralia village. Aminul was the son of Md. Alamgir Hossain Talukder, a resident of the adjacent Nachonmahal village under the same upazila.
According to law enforcement sources, the victim had left his residence on Saturday night (May 23) around 9:00 PM and failed to return. Following a frantic but unsuccessful search by family members, local residents spotted the body floating in the pond on Sunday and immediately alerted the local precinct. A tactical team from the Nalchhiti Police Station rushed to the scene to retrieve the body and initiate forensic protocols.
During the preliminary inquest, investigators discovered deep, multiple sharp-force trauma wounds and lacerations across vital parts of the victim’s body. Confirming the incident, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalchhiti Police Station, Md. Ariful Alam, stated that the nature of the injuries conclusively points to a premeditated and brutal homicide. “The perpetrators likely executed the victim elsewhere or on the embankment before submerging the body to destroy evidence,” the OC noted, adding that criminal investigation departments and district detectives have already launched joint operations to trace the culprits.
The body is being forwarded to the Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital morgue for a comprehensive post-mortem examination. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the filing of a formal murder case by the victim’s immediate family is currently underway under the statutory provisions of the Bangladesh Penal Code. The gruesome murder has sparked intense panic and widespread public outrage across the Nachonmahal and Kuralia institutional blocks.
