The Bangladesh Charcoal Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BCMEA) successfully organized a specialized workshop on April 10, 2026, focused on occupational health and safety within the charcoal sector. Funded by the Business Promotion Council, the event aimed to implement global safety standards and improve workplace environments in the regional charcoal units of Madaripur.
BCMEA President Atikur Rahman presided over the session, which included the notable presence of Sharmin Sultana, Admin Officer of Medlog Bangladesh Private Limited, and Ireen Sultana, Welfare Officer of Ananta Group. Over 50 participants, including factory owners, management representatives, and frontline workers, engaged in technical discussions regarding risk mitigation and the mandatory usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The inclusion of diverse administrative experts underscored a comprehensive approach to industrial safety and labor welfare.
During an interactive segment, workers voiced their workplace grievances directly to the leadership. President Atikur Rahman addressed these issues with immediate assurances of resolution, emphasizing that sustainable exports rely on a secure and healthy workforce. Sharmin Sultana and other experts shared their institutional experiences, contributing to a more robust framework for administrative oversight and employee safety within the charcoal factories.
The workshop also featured critical insights from Channel 1 reporter Mina Ferdous, who highlighted the media’s role in promoting industrial safety. The event concluded with a collective pledge to modernize the charcoal sector while prioritizing the health and security of its workers. The BCMEA President expressed high optimism for the industry’s future, thanking all stakeholders for their proactive engagement in this vital developmental initiative.
