Morning sunlight: A natural remedy for sleep, weight loss, and mental health

Date:

TBM Report

Exposure to morning sunlight for just one hour can significantly improve sleep quality, according to the National Institute of Science.

Experts suggest that the gentle rays of the early morning sun, filtering through a window, not only benefit the body but also help regulate the natural wake-up cycle.

Beyond providing essential Vitamin D, morning sunlight is now being linked to weight management. Research indicates that individuals who spend more time in bright morning light have a lower risk of weight gain compared to those exposed to light later in the day.

Mental health professionals also highlight the psychological benefits of natural light. Those who spend more time outdoors in the sun are reportedly less likely to suffer from depression, making sunlight one of the most effective natural treatments for combating gloom and seasonal affective disorder.

When sunlight hits the skin, it triggers the production of Vitamin D. Known as the “sunshine vitamin,” it plays a crucial role in calcium absorption, which is vital for bone health. While Vitamin D can also be found in fatty fish, like salmon, the sun remains the most direct source.

Furthermore, some studies suggest that this vitamin helps prevent various ailments, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, and heart disease.

Professor Michael Holick of the Boston University School of Medicine notes that despite its importance, Vitamin D deficiency remains widespread. According to him, the “sunshine vitamin” directly or indirectly influences about one-sixth of the human genome.

Data from the Harvard School of Public Health confirms that a vast number of people worldwide suffer from Vitamin D deficiency. Experts recommend at least 15 minutes of daily sun exposure, which is also beneficial for maintaining healthy skin.
