CIA Offers Buyouts to Entire Staff in Major Reshaping of U.S. Intelligence

Desk report: The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has offered buyouts to its entire workforce, marking a significant move in President Donald Trump’s broader efforts to downsize the federal government. This makes the CIA the first intelligence agency to participate in a voluntary redundancy program initiated by Trump for federal employees.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the agency is also freezing the hiring of individuals who have already received conditional offers for employment. An aide to CIA Director John Ratcliffe, who spoke anonymously, stated that some of these offers could be rescinded if the candidates do not align with the agency’s shifting priorities. These new goals reportedly include focusing on targeting drug cartels, addressing issues tied to Trump’s trade war, and undermining China.

This move is part of Trump’s ongoing push to overhaul the U.S. government, which has caused widespread concern and backlash in Washington. Critics argue that such a drastic reduction in the federal workforce could undermine the country’s ability to address national security threats, especially as the CIA plays a crucial role in gathering foreign intelligence.

The report on the CIA’s buyout program follows Trump’s announcement of a controversial plan for the U.S. to “take over the Gaza Strip,” further highlighting his administration’s shift in foreign and domestic policies.

The CIA has not yet commented on the buyout offers.
