BNP denounces ‘world champion in corruption’ narrative as fascist propaganda

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has rejected the resurrected “World Champion in Corruption” narrative, calling it a deliberate and deceptive propaganda piece orchestrated by its political rivals. At a press conference on Wednesday, Mahdi Amin, spokesperson for the BNP’s Election Management Committee, claimed that top leaders of a specific party are recycling old fascist rhetoric to mislead voters ahead of the national polls.

Amin presented statistical arguments, stating that during the BNP’s 2001-2006 tenure, the country’s corruption score improved from 0.4 to 2.0 on an international index. He noted that the party now leveling these accusations was once a coalition partner in that same government and remained silent back then. “This is nothing but political hypocrisy,” Amin remarked.

The BNP also raised alarms over election code violations, alleging that some candidates are using religious lures, such as promises of “paradise” and oaths on the Holy Quran, to secure votes. Amin further criticized the unconstitutional rhetoric of certain candidates in Sylhet and condemned the dismissal of a mosque muazzin in Naogaon for supporting the BNP’s ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol.
