DHS denies reports of border patrol commander Gregory Bovino’s ouster

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has officially refuted reports suggesting the removal of Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino from his current post. On Monday, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin clarified via social media that Bovino remains a key member of President Trump’s administration, dismissing an earlier report by The Atlantic.

The controversy arises amidst escalating tensions in Minneapolis, where federal immigration raids have resulted in the tragic deaths of two women, including an ICU nurse. Bovino had been a prominent figure in these operations, drawing criticism for aggressive tactics against protesters. Despite the rumors of his reassignment to California, the administration has reaffirmed its support for the commander.

In a move to de-escalate, President Trump signaled a softer approach following talks with Minnesota officials. While some federal agents are expected to withdraw from Minneapolis, Trump is deploying “Border Czar” Tom Homan to the city to coordinate future actions with Mayor Jacob Frey.
