At least 12 people were killed and 30 others injured after a construction crane collapsed onto a passenger train in northeastern Thailand on Wednesday morning.
The accident occurred on January 14, 2026, in the Sikhiu district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, approximately 230 kilometers northeast of the capital, Bangkok. The train was en route from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province.
Local police reported that a crane being used for a high-speed rail project suddenly collapsed, crashing onto a moving carriage. The impact caused the train to derail and triggered a brief fire.
Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control shortly after the incident. Rescue operations are currently underway, and the injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to police sources.
An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the crane’s failure
