Police recovered the body of a 42-year-old paddy trader from his own farmland in Sherpur Upazila on Sunday morning, a day after he went missing. Investigators suspect the victim, Hamidul Mondal, was murdered.
Local authorities discovered the body around 8:45 AM in the Bhavanipur Union area. Preliminary evidence, including rope marks around the neck, suggests Hamidul was strangled to death elsewhere and his body dumped in the field.
Hamidul, a resident of Jamalpur village, operated as a local middleman, collecting grain from farmers to supply wholesalers. According to his family, he left home on Saturday afternoon to collect outstanding payments from a wholesaler. He never returned, and his mobile phone remained switched off throughout the night.
“We have sent the body to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for an autopsy,” said Saif Ahmed, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sherpur Police Station.
Ibrahim Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Police, confirmed the incident and stated that legal proceedings are currently underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.
